Overview

An advanced version of Contract Law for Non Legal Professionals, this course addresses the most recent and more complex contract law issues faced by executives by Examining advanced elements of contract law and contractual obligations to manage risk, systematically audit contracts and improve dispute resolution methods

You will examine the issues in contracts – from conception to completion - manage risks, deal with disputes, damages, and termination in the event of a breach or disagreement.

This advanced course will highlight on how judges deal with issues of interpretation of contracts and how and what you must do to ensure that ambiguity is avoided in documentation. You will also be taken through case studies on interpretations of recent decisions of judges and the impact of these decisions on contract law and its practice.

Mr. Yuen graduated from the Faculty of Law of The University of Hong Kong in 1997 and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2000 and qualified as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of England & Wales in 2001.  Mr Yuen qualified as a member of the Charted Institute of Arbitrators (U.K.) since 2002.  Mr Yuen is also qualified as a Certified Management Accountant of the Institute of Certified Management Accountant(Australia).

Mr Yuen has over twenty five years’ of legal practice experience with particular focus on commercial litigations and arbitration and corporate and commercial matters.  Mr Yuen established his own law firm Tony Yuen & Co in 2010.  Before setting up his own law firm, Mr. Yuen worked for an international law firm from UK for many years and was the Chief Representative of the firm’s Shanghai office. His practice ranging from commercial litigation and arbitration, international trade disputes including bill of ladings disputes, maritime law, corporate and commercial laws and matters related to China including foreign direct investments in China.

Mr. Yuen is currently focusing on corporate and commercial matters, many of which involved cross-broader issues.  His practice areas include mergers and acquisitions, advising on corporate restructure before Initial Public Offer, advising and drafting commercial agreements, incorporation and establishment of joint ventures projects, advising on corporate governance issues, representing clients in litigation, mediation and arbitration cases.

Mr Tony Yuen held the following public appointments by the HKSAR Government and Chief Justice of HKSAR:

  • Tribunal Member of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal by appointed by the Chief Justice of HKSAR (2010 – 2024);
  • Adjudicator of the Registration of Persons Tribunal (2014-2020);
  • Appeal Tribunal Panel under the Building Ordinance (2012-2018);
  • Member of the Appeal Panel (Housing) (2016-2022);
  • Observer, Independent Police Complaints Council (2015 – 2023); and
  • Disciplinary Panel of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (2017-2023).
